About RWTH Aachen University
The RWTH Aachen University (Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen) was established in 1870 and has since then grown to a leading European scientific and research institution with close links to industry. The university is divided in 9 faculties with a total of 260 institutes. Over 45000 students are enrolled in 157 courses of study for the Winter Semester 2018/19, including more than 10000 international students from more than 120 different countries. RWTH Aachen is one of the universities in Germany with the most third party funds, amounting to 385.3 million Euros of the 998.5 million Euros of total annual budget in 2018. In 2007, the RWTH Aachen University was chosen as one of nine German Universities of Excellence and retained this status in the subsequent funding periods starting in 2012 and 2019. In the frame of the Excellence Initiative, RWTH has already evolved into an Integrated Interdisciplinary University for Science and Technology. .
